Biography

I am a Professor of Philosophy at Southern Connecticut State University, where I have taught since 2006. Longtime research interests include social and political philosophy (with an emphasis on global institutions), philosophy of law, immigration ethics, and biomedical ethics. More recent interests lie at the intersection of metaphysics, consciousness studies, philosophy of religion, and philosophical psychology. My articles have appeared in Philosophical Studies, The Journal of Political Philosophy, The Journal of Ethics, Ethics and International Affairs, Metaphilosophy, Social Theory and Practice, Legal Theory, Politics Philosophy and Economics, and in edited volumes. I serve on the editorial boards of Metaphilosophy and the Journal of Social Philosophy. I am originally from Southern California and received my undergraduate degree at U.C. Berkeley before moving to New Haven to pursue a doctorate at Yale. I have held previous faculty positions at Yale and at the University of Arizona and have held postdoctoral fellowships at Tulane University and Harvard University. Aside from interests in philosophy, I am a science-fiction enthusiast and hold the rank of Shodan in Shinshin-Toitsu Aikido.
